Steamy Screams will be an anthology of erotic horror. Stories can range from 750 - 5,000 words. Submissions do not have to be straight horror but they must be dark. Science fiction and dark fantasy* will be considered as long as it is dark or has a strong element of horror.

We want twisted desires, psychological horror, lustful demons, wickedly sexy ghosts and all forms of devious midnight visitors. But submissions don’t need to have supernatural beings in them; the lustful deviants can simply be humans. After all, there is no monster more horrifying than mankind and nothing more depraved than the dark depths of the human condition.

Please avoid classic horror conventions and classic monsters (vampires, werewolves or zombies) unless you incorporate a unique twist. Remember, evil has no boundaries and neither do we! Nothing is off limits, so take advantage of the freedom. We'll accept stories in any setting or time period, as long as it's well written, powerful and original. Leave the reader scared as well as tantalized. Expose the horror in love, the pain in sex and as always, scare us!
Stories must be formatted in the following manner:

• 12 point font
• Times New Roman or Courier New
• Double-spaced
• Contact information in the upper left (name,  address, phone number, email)
• Word count upper right
• 1 Space after a punctuation mark
• Underline everything you would like to italicize at publication

Payment:  ¾ cents per word.
Submissions open August 20th and close November 20th. Do not query about your submission until December 20th.

* Fantasy is always a gray area. Dark fantasy to us is more H.P. Lovecraft than J.R.R. Tolkien. We’d like to see a creepy world you created or a flipside image of humanity rather than Middle Earth type realms featuring wizards and dwarfs.

 

Welcome to Seasons in the Abyss where horror is always in the forecast regardless of the time of year. We’re looking for flash fiction revolving around one of the four seasons (summer, spring, winter or fall).  Authors may submit up to 4 stories (one per season).  Stories must fit into the genre of horror and the season must be integral to the plot in some way. As always, be creative. Summer horror tales don’t have to just be about hot weather. They can encompass BBQ’s, catching fireflies, long days at the beach, children on school break, etc. Spring is so much more than just rain. Use seasonal holidays, sporting events, and so on to pen a creative and dark submission.

We prefer stories to be 750 words or less although we will consider fiction up to 1,000. 1 K is firm though, we won’t accept anything longer. We are looking for around 25 stories per season.

Submissions will remain open until filled. Only unpublished stories may be submitted. Use standard manuscript formatting. No simultaneous submissions. No multiple submissions for the same season.
